Sophia Herring is an arts & culture journalist based in SoHo, New York
Herring is a Brooklyn native with a background in Architecture and Art History. She began her career at Architectural Digest, where she served as Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief before becoming an Associate Editor. Over her tenure, she published more than 130 pieces across AD's verticals—including AD Classic, Clever, AD PRO, and ADIY—with a focus on news, art, fashion, design, home tours, and profiles. She also wrote and produced AD's bi-weekly industry newsletter.
In 2022, Herring left AD to pursue freelance work before graduate school. Since then, her writing has appeared in The Guardian, The New York Times, T Magazine, GQ, The Art Newspaper, The Wall Street Journal, ArtNews, Hyperallergic, Upstate Diary, Domino, and Mr & Mrs Smith. She also oversees editorial direction for Palo Gallery’s catalogs and arts publication.
Herring holds a Master of Arts from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, completing the Arts & Culture program for mid-career journalists.
