Sophia Herring is New York based Journalist

Herring Brooklyn-born writer with a background in Architecture and Art History. She began her career at Architectural Digest, where she served as Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief before becoming an Associate Editor. Over her tenure, she published more than 150 pieces across AD's verticals with a focus on news, art, architecture, fashion, design, home tours, and profiles. She also wrote and produced AD's bi-weekly industry newsletter.

In 2022, Herring left AD to pursue freelance work before graduate school. Since then, her writing has appeared in The Guardian, The New York Times, T Magazine, GQ, The Art Newspaper, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, ArtNews, Hyperallergic, W Magazine, Vanity Fair, and more. She also worked as an Editorial Features Writer at Christie’s during their editorial expansion, covering art, design, fashion, and jewelry. Over her career, she has interviewed cultural luminaries ranging from Damien Hirst, Larry Gagosian, and Lenny Kravitz to Marie Kondo and Ina Garten.

Herring holds a Master of Arts from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, completing the Arts & Culture program for experienced journalists with a 4.0 GPA. Her fifty page thesis project centered on black radical politics in and through fashion.
